We have multiple openings for Treatment Facility Operators to support environmental restoration at our Livermore Site. You will assist to operate and maintain treatment facilities and extraction wells, construct new and replacement facilities and pipelines, install groundwater pumps, collect and submit water and air samples. These positionsare in the Environmental Restoration Department.

These positions will be filled at either the 533.2 or 533.3 level depending on your experience. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Assist in providing routine and advanced maintenance, troubleshooting and/or repair of wells and treatment facilities; assist to install, operate, and perform routine maintenance on fluid flow systems, chemical reaction systems, mechanical equipment, and other test instrumentation.- Provide general technical support to scientists, engineers, and senior technical personnel in the construction, operation and maintenance of groundwater and soil vapor treatment facilities.- Assist in the collection of groundwater and soil vapor samples for scientific analysis.,- Assist with monitoring soil vapor treatment media using organic vapor analyzers to ensure regulatory compliance, calibrate scientific equipment, and record measurements.- Solve moderately complex technical problems and make appropriate decisions; provide recommendations for process improvement procedures, techniques and guidelines.- Assist with performing system testing and facility treatability studies, collect test information, and assist with preparing documentation for reporting results.- Operate a pump truck, forklift, ATV, and tractor; pull trailers and tanks, and perform off-road driving; perform field operations in varying weather conditions and in remote locations.- Perform other duties as assigned.In Addition at the 533.3 Level- Perform maintenance, complex troubleshooting and/or repair of wells, and operate treatment facilities; install, operate, and perform routine maintenance on fluid flow systems, chemical reaction systems, mechanical equipment, and other test instrumentation; prepare orders for sampling and treatment facility materials.- Collect groundwater and soil vapor samples for scientific analysis, prepare chain of custody and other quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) requirements and/or tracking forms, and package and deliver samples to established courier service pickup point.- Solve complex technical problems and make appropriate decisions; provide recommendations for process improvement procedures, techniques and guidelines.
Qualifications- Associate degree in environmental or mechanical technology or other relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience with experience in environmental restoration activities.- Experience with and intermediate mechanical skills and knowledge of piping, plumbing, reading blueprints, machining, tooling and pump repair; knowledge of pressurized system operations and maintenance.- Intermediate technical knowledge and understanding of remediation operations such as ground water remediation, treatment unit operations, maintenance, installation, and development; knowledge of well operations, equipment, maintenance, and environmental sampling techniques.- Knowledge of and experience with the use of a broad range of environmental monitoring equipment such as pH and conductivity meters.- Intermediate computer skills using both Macintosh and Windows platforms for operating groundwater treatment facilities, completing reports, and inputting monthly data and test results; good recordkeeping skills and experience.- Experience identifying, recommending solutions, and resolving moderately complex technical problems using decision making, field experience and judgement; ability to work alone or as part of a team in varying field conditions.- Possess effective written, verbal, feedback, and communication skills to effectively communicate technical information with a diverse set of employees and subcontractors; ability to independently initiate and complete technical projects.- Ability to obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification; ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs in a safe and controlled manner; ability to become medically qualified to wear a respiratory; possess a valid drivers license.In Addition at the 533.3 Level- Significant mechanical experience and advanced mechanical skills and knowledge of piping, plumbing, reading blueprints, machining, tooling and pump repair; knowledge of pressurized system operations and maintenance.- Specialized and advanced technical knowledge of remediation operations such as groundwater remediation, treatment unit operations, maintenance, installation, and development; knowledge of well operations, equipment, maintenance, and environmental sampling techniques.- Experience identifying, recommending solutions, and resolving complex technical problems using decision making, field experience and judgement; ability to work alone or as part of a team in varying field conditions.
Desired Qualifications- Familiarity with the LLNL Site 200 or Site 300 environmental restoration operations.- Knowledge of Integrated Safety Management (ISM) requirements; hazardous waste disposal policies and procedures for environmental contaminants; regulatory agency permit process for air and water quality.- Experience off-road driving a 4x4 truck; minor welding skills and machine tool operations and fabrications.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
