As market leader in enterprise application software, SAP helps companies of all sizes and industries innovate through simplification. From the back office to the boardroom, warehouse to storefront, on premise to cloud, desktop to mobile device – SAP empowers people and organizations to work together more efficiently and use business insight more effectively to stay ahead of the competition. SAP applications and services enable customers to operate profitably, adapt continuously, and grow sustainably.

In this position, you will be part of the Datamapper Team based in San Francisco, CA. Datamapper is the email parsing engine that enables TripIt to automagically transform your emails into a master itinerary for every trip so all your plans are in one place.

In the first 12 months you will:

Deliver business value: The most important thing that our team can do for the company is to parse emails reliably in a world of ever

changing vendors, email formats and supported languages.

Learn: We embrace different technologies while understanding the business value that they can deliver. You will need to learn our

existing system and how our team functions. You will need to learn the projects that are currently in progress and utilize different

technologies such as Scala and Deep Learning.

Lead: Be an example for the team and be a multiplier. You must be willing to learn and to teach others. This can come in the form of

code reviews, one on one pairing sessions, group teaching sessions, and more. You must be approachable and listen to differing

opinions. You must facilitate technical discussions and build consensus within the team and across organizations.

Drive: Understand the requirements, drive to an agreed upon design/solution and drive projects to completion.

Transform: One parser does not fit all. Help our team transform from a single parser to a multiple parser approach.

Evolve: Improve our software lifecycle and processes. Help us adopt more agile processes where they make sense. Help define team

standards as needed. There's always room for improvement.

Prioritize: As much as we'd like to, we don't have unlimited resources. Our priorities must be rooted in reality and align to business

Scale our systems: We need to parse more emails with the resources that we have.

Keep our systems and data secure: We are a multinational corporation with customers across the globe. We design our systems with

security and data privacy in mind.

In order to accomplish this you will need:

  • Experience with programming languages: Python (must have), Scala (desirable)
  • Experience with distributed computing: Spark, Hadoop, and similar frameworks
  • Experience with parallel/concurrent frameworks: Python Multiprocessing, joblib, and similar frameworks
  • Experience with natural language processing: Document clustering and classification, information extraction, entity recognition
  • Familiarity with SOA, micro-services, database technologies, and best practices for building reliable systems
  • Proficiency with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos/Marathon, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Event Processing: Ideally understand event processing/messaging (e.g. RabbitMQ, SQS), as well as logging, auditing, analysis and
  • collection of metrics
  • AWS: Experience with AWS architecture, including designing an overall AWS solution.
  • Operational Environment: Understand AWS infrastructure, runbook specification, application monitoring, code build/deploy pipelines
  • Problem Solving: It's easy to find problems, it's harder to find solutions. We need people who are constructive and interested in finding solutions.
  • As a Collaborator: Be a team player and be highly collaborative. Be an effective communicator who can promote ideas, but also be able to listen to and work with others.
  • As an Individual: Have a results-driven personality, flexible mindset, positive outlook, be emotionally mature, focus on the customer and most importantly have a sense of humor.
  • As a Technologist: Explore new technologies and ideas. Help set and enforce standards.
  • As a Leader: Be a multiplier and help those around you elevate their performance. You should be approachable, open to learn from others and also enjoy mentoring and sharing knowledge. Build consensus for solutions. Delegate tasks to help junior developers learn and to meet deadlines.
  • Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience in software development and full product lifecycles. Should have a degree in Computer Science or equivalent years of work experience. Ability to pass a background check.
