User Experience Designer/Front End Developer (Early Career) Limited Term Employee

Are you passionate about your work and want to explore state-of-the-art solutions? If so, you could be the highly motivated web designer we are seeking to design and develop innovative user interfaces based on user needs. The position requires the ability to prepare concepts and prototypes for multiple enterprise system projects. The selected candidate will need to quickly learn new business domains and perform as an integrated team member on multiple development projects.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Design wireframes and prototypes, and iterate designs based on usability test results.
+ Develop front end interfaces using modern web technologies and standards.
+ Collaborate with user experience researchers, software developers, and other project team members to create innovative, modern, and usable software products.


+ Bachelor's Degree in a field related to software design/development, interaction design, graphics design, related field or equivalent experience
+ Experience designing and/or developing web and mobile applications
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L security clearance


+ Knowledge in programming and working with APIs
+ Experience rapid prototyping and wireframing using tools such as Balsamiq, Axure, Sketch, Visio etc.
+ Knowledge of RESTful APIs
+ Experience with Front end frameworks (Angular, React, Bootstrap, Sass)
+ Basic knowledge of User Experience Best Practices
+ Experience working in an Agile development environment
+ Solid understanding of the http client/server architecture, AJAX
+ Experience with user interface and front-end development (JavaScript, JSON, CSS)

Department Description:

The User Experience (UX) Solutions department helps teams develop well-designed solutions by placing the end user at the center of the design process. We provide user experience research, design, and development to ensure the best experience for the user when interacting with a product. The services we provide are: User research - understanding user behaviors, needs, and motivations using methods such as contextual interviews and observations to gather requirements. User interface design and development - designing user interfaces and how the user will interact with the system. Usability testing and evaluation - testing and evaluating product concepts (i.e. wireframes, mock-ups, prototypes) to evaluate ease of use and user satisfaction. User interface web services - development developing common user interface components. Software development - utilizing our team of project managers, requirements engineers, user researchers, user interface designers, and software developers to build a custom software application. We strive for intuitive, useful, valuable, and delightful solutions that meet users' needs.

Security Clearance:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
