Vibration & Acoustics Lab Test Operations Engineer (Early/Mid-Career)

We are seeking a Test Operations Engineer to coordinate testing requirements and scheduling for department 1521, Vibration and Acoustic Simulation\. In this role, you will be the central point of contact for customer/test engineering interaction, a critical function which includes managing the vibration and acoustics laboratorys schedule, facilitating effective communications between customers and test engineers, and ensuring the work planning & control process is complete and sufficient prior to testing\. A unique opportunity exists to develop new tools to assess, track, and schedule testing efforts\. Future opportunities may include coordination of off\-site testing support\.



On any given day, you may be called on to:



+ Facilitate test planning efforts and manage the labs test schedule for a variety of customers, including nuclear weapons, non\-proliferation, and a variety of work for others customers

+ Collaborate with customers and engineers on challenging and innovative projects to ensure customers receive high quality mechanical testing results

+ Identify and implement scheduling, planning, and logistics improvements, including development and implementation of IT tools that aid the scheduling and planning process and store test documentation

+ Support the development and execution of test plans to ensure test units are exposed to the correct environments

+ Support work planning and control processes and ensure all test documentation is complete and has adequate information to support to assure safe, secure, and high\-quality operations

+ Manage test documentation approvals

+ Collect customer feedback concerning test lab operations, customer interactions, and test results



Required:



+ Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline

+ Experience managing schedules in a team\-based or customer service environment

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q/Sigma clearance



Desired:



+ Masters degree in a STEM discipline

+ Experience with work planning and controls processes, test planning, test execution, and report development and delivery

+ Experience with high consequence safety operations, including explosive and radioactive related processes

+ Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with teams and customers through effective communication and organization

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively in diverse team environments

+ Demonstrated leadership and/or project management skills

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills

+ Active DOE L or Q clearance



Department Description:



The Vibration/Acoustics Simulation Department, 01521, within the Engineering Sciences Center, 01500, specializes in replicating normal, hostile, and abnormal environments through tailored and controllable vibration/shock, acoustic, and thermal tests\. In addition to vibration and acoustics capabilities, the department also has the ability to accurately take mass properties measurements for small and large\-scale test articles and subject components to HALT and HASS\. Test data is used to characterize the structural response of systems to a variety of environments\. The work includes integration with environments engineering and advancement of diagnostics and experimental capabilities\. These integrated capabilities support applied and fundamental laboratory research, model validation, experimental model development, and characterization of hardware behavior during operational environments in the development, qualification, and acceptance phases of a broad range of national security missions that include nuclear weapons deterrents, satellite assets, missile defense, conventional military technologies, infrastructure and energy security, and other applications\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
