Salary Range:

$99,700 - $196,100

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

The Firing & Embedded Systems group (7620) has a portfolio that covers diverse opportunities across Sandia’s Nuclear Deterrence mission and various Strategic Partnership Programs supporting work across the U.S. government. This posting is specifically for the Mechanical Lead for the W87-0 Firing Set Assembly (FSA) Product Realization Team, within the Strategic Firing Subsystems department (7625). This position will require occasional travel (up to once a month)

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

+ Provide ownership and direction for mechanical designs.

+ Coordinate with system customers, production agencies, and other stakeholders to support design, testing, development, qualification, and production activities.

+ Analyze performance against requirements, build prototypes, and refine designs.

+ Utilize tools and software to perform configuration management and issue engineering authorizations.

+ Utilize Mechanical Engineer principles to evaluate impacts of defects on performance parameters of parts, assemblies, and systems.

+ Partner with the production agency to identify opportunities to implement design for manufacturability principles and update design definition

+ Evaluate performance characteristics of as built parts against requirements

+ Communicate technical information and/or project status to team members, customers, and management

Qualifications We Require:

+ A Master’s degree in Mechanical, or other related engineering discipline; or A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, or other engineering discipline plus 3 more years related experience.

+ Experience reading, interpreting, and applying geometric dimensioning & tolerancing principles and symbols on mechanical part drawings

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills

+ The ability to acquire and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance OR An active DOE Q-level security clearance; or other equivalent active security clearance such as DOD Top Secret/CNWDI

Qualifications We Desire:

+ Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field

+ Experience working with the Kansas City National Security Campus

+ Experience working in a production or manufacturing environment

+ Working knowledge of mechanical inspection and measurement techniques

+ Knowledge or experience with design for manufacturing principles

+ Experience troubleshooting hardware issues

+ Experience with environmental testing and data analysis (shock, vibration, thermal).

+ Demonstrated attention to detail

+ Ability to work on cross-organizational/multidisciplinary teams

+ Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask with competing priorities

+ Direct experience supporting Nuclear Deterrence projects

+ Experience with firing subsystems.

+ Active DOE Q clearance

+ Ability to obtain and maintain Sigma 15 access

Security Clearance:
