What Your Job Will Be Like:

The W87-1 program is currently seeking a Risk Manager (job title: S&E Project Manager) to join our team. The Risk Manager will be responsible for: partnering with risk owners in developing risks and opportunities; quantifying the risk/opportunity schedule and cost impacts; tracking risk mitigation activities; maintaining the programs risk register; leading risk review boards; partnering with other risk managers at our partner sites (LLNL, KCNSC, Pantex, Sandia Production, LANL, Y12, and Savanah River Site); collaborating with our NNSA and Air Force (AF) customers; and participating in risk and opportunity reporting and communications.

The selected candidate will work closely with Systems Leads, PRT Leads, Scheduling Leads, Finance Leads, and management for risk development and approval. In addition, the Risk Manager would maintain and implement the program’s Risk and Opportunity Management Plan (ROMP).

The successful candidate will have project management expertise, specifically in risk management, and should have a strong technical understanding of scope or a willingness to learn the technical scope.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Perform risk management activities including identifying, technically & programmatically assessing, elevating, and managing risks through the life of the project.

+ Develop, quantify, assess, and brief project risks and opportunities

+ Work in a peer-level relationship with the technical lead to manage and provide leadership and integration across the programmatic and technical teams.

+ Develop and lead programmatic processes

+ Manage action items and deliverables

+ Contribute to and participate in customer meetings; develop and present briefings

Qualifications We Require:

+ Bachelor’s degree in relevant science, technology, engineering, or math related field plus five or more years of experience in an R&D (Science and/or Engineering) role and/or technical Science & Engineering Project Manager role; or equivalent combination of education and engineering or scientific experience (such as a Master's degree in relevant STEM field plus one or more years of technical experience).

+ Experience with standard project management practices for technical work, such as project plan development and control, risk management, requirements management, project staffing, scope management, project scheduling, cost estimation and management, quality assurance, communications planning and management, and procurement management.

+ Current PMP or equivalent certification, or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.

+ Proficiency in tools and applications commonly employed in project management activities.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

+ Knowledge and background in Nuclear Weapons Product Realization Process.

+ Experience in transitioning complex products from development into production. Knowledge of Design & Production Sites/Responsibilities within the Nuclear Security Enterprise.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

+ Ability to make decisions requiring scientific or engineering judgment across multiple fields.

+ Ability to effectively communicate across science & engineering, project controls, and business subject areas.

+ Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.

+ Ability to effectively prioritize and complete tasks in a high-pressure environment.

+ Project management education and certification(s).

About Our Team:

The W87-1 Project Management departments are responsible for providing Project Management expertise to the W87-1 Modification Program system team at Sandia National Laboratories. The departments are also an integral part of the Division 8000 Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Project Management Office (PMO). The ND Programs are responsible for assuring the safety, reliability and security of U.S. nuclear weapons, enabling the defense of our nation through our nuclear strategic deterrent. This team partners with the System Engineering team and provides knowledge of PM methodologies and tools to enable the technical line organizations to perform, oversee, and execute the scope for the W87-1

Security Clearance:
