Job Description

The Aerospace Transportation and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATAS), Aerospace and Acoustics Technologies Division (AATD) is searching for a Web Application Systems Developer who can think outside of the box and is looking for a dynamic and challenging work environment. The candidate will support multiple opportunities in the Biosensing and Signal Analytics Branch (BSAB) as it relates to the design and maintenance of web-based applications in support of physiological sensing, biomedical signal processing, machine learning, communications, tactical sensing, and related applications. The role of this position is to apply technical skills to support the development of front end interfaces, integrate data from various back-end services and databases, and support the deployment of distributed systems.

Job Duties

  • Design and implement/program user interfaces based on high-level technical and user experience requirements
  • Take high-level requirements and plan, design, develop and test scalable parallel processing enabled and/or distributed/cluster computing enabled applications (primarily web applications) in response
  • Work with database-related technologies to take high-level requirements to design, develop, and test efficacy of database storage solutions and develop appropriate high-performance queries as needed
  • Perform data analyses using quantitative (e.g. run a t-test and interpret the result) and/or qualitative methods (e.g. qualitatively code interview data) as required
  • Contribute to report-writing from data analysis performed, systems designed, etc.
  • Learn new skills as necessary to stay up-to-date with current research, system development strategies, and HCI practices

Education & Length of Experience

Research Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field of study with a focus on Web Application Development, Human-Computer Interaction, or Computational Data Analysis.

Research Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science or a related field of study with a focus on Web Application Development, Human-Computer Interaction, or Computational Data Analysis and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computer Science or a related field of study with a focus on Web Application Development, Human-Computer Interaction, or Computational Data Analysis and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science or a related field of study with a focus on Web Application Development, Human-Computer Interaction, or Computational Data Analysis.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Intermediate programming experience in ECMAScript, Python, Java
  • Knowledgeable in:
    • Version control software such as GIT
    • Unix-variant operating systems
    • Open-source software tools and libraries
  • Ability to produce and deliver high-quality reports and presentations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Modern web application vertical stack frameworks and tools including but not limited to:
    • NodeJS,
    • ReactJS,
    • MongoDB,
    • CSS,
    • HTML5,
    • Postgres
  • Docker and Container Orchestration
  • SailsJS, Rancher, Webpack, Swift, Android SDK, Matlab
  • Creating and running unit tests for server-side and user-facing elements
  • Deploying production web application systems
  • Knowledge of machine learning or statistical signal processing

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance
