ABB is seeking a Welding Coordinator, to perform welding supervision / coordination and provide technical knowledge to support internal processes and procedures. Assignments require diversified knowledge of engineering, manufacturing and quality assurance to cost effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives. Proactively seek and implement initiatives to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction.

Typical duties/responsibilities for quality may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Plan and establish work schedules considering customer requirements, priorities and availability of resources. Assign work consistent with skills of staff in order to cost-effectively achieve objectives, ensure quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor progress of welding work and ensure compliance with quality, schedule and cost commitments. Investigate complex problems and independently initiate effective measures for their solution.
  • Maintain awareness of new design developments and technologies and make recommendations regarding feasibility of utilizing alternative approaches, modifying or replacing equipment to reduce costs or improve quality. As assigned, devise and implement new approaches to recurring problems. Prepare or assist in preparing budgets and ensure adherence to approved budget plans. Provide guidance and training to staff to continually upgrade their skills and improve performance. In conjunction with human resources representatives, resolve human resources problems and ensure fair and equal treatment in the workplace.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree and 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing and welding environment; OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing and welding environment; OR
  • Master’s Degree and 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing and welding environment

 Alternatively, this position may be filled at the senior level for the successful candidate meeting these basic qualifications:

  • Associates Degree and 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing and welding environment; OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing and welding environment; OR
  • Master’s Degree and 6+ years of experience in a manufacturing and welding environment 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • The relevant technical knowledge according to EN ISO 14731.
  • Experience of welding coordination / supervision for the production of railway vehicles and/or components of at least three years and proof of basic technical knowledge.
  • Qualification according to Doc. IAB-004-2000/EWF-411, Doc. IAB-005-2001/EWF-451 – International Welding Specialist (IWS) or European Welding Specialist (EWS) or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in dealing with compliance to specifications
  • The ability to develop and maintain compliant welding procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR or WPQR), and welder qualification test records (WQTR).
  • The ability to train welding operators.
  • In depth familiarity with various codes and standards such as American Welding Society (AWS), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB), and / or the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).
  • ASNT NDT Level II Visual Testing (VT) qualification required- NDT Level III Examiner preferred
